Bad Hofgastein is, along with Bad Gastein, Dorfgastein and Sportgastein, one of the top Salzburg ski resorts in the Gastein Valley. The health resort is the historical and geographical centre of the Gastein Valley and therefore exudes a very special charm.


Bad Hofgastein is a charming, lively holiday resort with numerous offers for the perfect winter holiday. The many historic buildings frame the pedestrian zone, in which you will find numerous loving little cafés, popular restaurants and nice boutiques. The new Schlossalmbahn in Bad Hofgastein can be reached in just a few minutes from the town centre. With the new train, you can reach the mountain in just 10 minutes. The ski swing Schlossalm-Angertal-Stubnerkogel connects the villages Bad Hofgastein and Bad Gastein. The Schlossalm-Angertal-Stubnerkogel ski area comprises 87 kilometres of pistes. The varied ski runs with height differences of more than 1000 m guarantee pure piste fun. The offer varies between blue, red and black slopes. Beginners, families and very ambitious skiers will find the perfect slopes for themselves. Fun and action is offered by the 650 metre long Funslope on the Schlossalm. The course consists of butter boxes, tunnels, small kickers, snails and a few steep turns and will delight the whole family. The snowpark Gastein on the Stubnerkogel attracts more experienced freeskiers and of course motivated beginners. A real highlight is the skimovie on the Schlossalm. The ski area Sportgastein is a true freeride Eldorado, which reaches up to 2.686 meters and is therefore the highest ski area in Ski amadé. In winter, the area gets abundant and extensive snowfalls, and countless deep-snow slopes can be reached without long ascents. Three marked ski routes (Golden Powder, Golden Rush and Golden Ride) offer untroubled freeride fun. Unpaved slopes and deep snow up to the belly are often the order of the day in Sportgastein. No wonder that Gastein is known as a freeride paradise. There are also international contests, and athletes like Sandra Lahnsteiner have chosen Gastein as their home. But also the piste skiers don't miss out in Sportgastein. Wide pistes for pure skiing pleasure at an altitude of 2650 m in the middle of the most beautiful mountain panorama.

In the local ski and snowboard schools, beginners learn the first turns in the courses with a lot of fun, while advanced skiers optimise their ski and snowboard technique with demanding exercises. The children learn quickly and easily in the various skill groups. Fun and motivation are in the foreground. Especially for the teenagers and adults it is important to attend a ski course after a longer break. Because the right technique has to be learned.

From the piste directly to the spa - after an action-packed ski day you can relax in the various worlds of experience and well-being of the Alpentherme Gastein on 32,000 m² (Relax World, Ladies World, Sauna World, Family World).

In addition to skiing, there are many other winter activities to experience in Gastein. Cross-country skiers can let off steam in Gastein on a total of 45 kilometres of cross-country trails. The 9.2 km high cross-country ski run in Sportgastein impresses with an incomparable mountain panorama.

Snowshoe hikers or winter hikers will also not miss out in Bad Hofgastein. If you don't want to explore the valley on snowshoes alone, you can join the weekly snowshoe hikes in the Angertal or on the Graukogel. Romantics can also explore the Gastein Valley on a romantic horse-drawn sleigh ride. If you like to turn your curves with your skates, show your skating skills or try your hand at curling, you can do it all in a breathtaking mountain setting right in the centre of Bad Hofgastein next to the Kursaal. The night toboggan evenings (Tuesdays and Fridays) on the Aeroplan natural toboggan run are a must-do. The 3.3 km long illuminated toboggan run offers the ideal conditions for a small duel between parents and children. Fast cornering sequences and the wide track require a lot of skill and the right braking and acceleration technique.

For night owls and music lovers Gastein offers a lot and is also known for its numerous and cool events. At the Sound & Snow Gastein Music Festival, mega stars and top-class support acts rock the Schlossalm Stage. In winter season 2019/20 the music festival takes place on three days spread over the winter season. At the opening of the festival on 14 December 2019, the hottest rap stars, Bonez MC & RAF Camora, will be on stage. The line-up for the other two dates will be released in autumn at www.soundandsnow.at Another particularly outstanding event right at the beginning of winter is the FIS Snowboard World Cup in Bad Gastein. Here again the world's best snowboarders fight with every hundredth of a margin for the world championship title. At the beginning of February, however, art fans can marvel at numerous works of art made of snow and ice at the largest art festival in the Alps, "Art on Snow". In March it will be really hot for jazz fans at the Snow Jazz Festival Gastein. The absolute highlight in spring is the annual "Palmen auf den Almen" in Sportgastein. 50 real palms, Latin dancers, Caribbean sound and cocktails in a breathtakingly beautiful snow-covered mountain scenery provide a holiday feeling of a very special kind!
