Ski schools and ski courses in Aschau - Zillertal

Aschau was first mentioned in documents in 1309 as "Aschowe" (Eschenau). The name refers to the extensive floodplain forests that covered the valley floor of the Ziller until the 11th century. The district Distelberg was first mentioned in a document in 1188.
For historical reasons, the district is divided into the diocese of Innsbruck to the west of the Ziller and the archdiocese of Salzburg (Distelberg) to the east of the Ziller.
In 1973 Aschau was united with the formerly independent parish of Distelberg.
Aschau owes its name to the extensive floodplain landscapes that covered the valley floor as late as the Middle Ages. The municipality, which has just under 1,900 inhabitants, is connected to the Zillertal Railway with its own railway station and is therefore also easily accessible during car-free holidays. In winter there are numerous opportunities for skiers and snowboarders: Above all, the Hochzillertal-Hochfügen ski area should be mentioned, which is directly connected to Aschau by a valley run and is also known as a freeride hotspot. In addition, the Spieljoch ski area is not far away, which is appreciated for its family-friendly atmosphere. The unagitated character of the community is also very much appreciated by the guests of the nearby camping Aufenfeld, which offers various sports facilities, an indoor swimming pool and a climbing hall. If you are looking for a little variety from hiking, mountain biking or cycling tours through the valley, you should also try out the neighbouring climbing centre Zillertal or the high ropes course in Kaltenbach.
